CAST NYLON SHEAVES
B.I.R.S Machine & Supply nylon sheaves custom machined are making there
way into a wide variety of lifting equipment across the US. Cast Nylon sheaves
often replace sheaves made of cast iron, aluminum or steel.
B.I.R.S Machine and Supply custom machined nylon sheaves offers some very
important advantages to equipment designers searching for ways to reduce
component weights, increase sheave component service life, provide protection
against corrosive environments. Some grades of nylon are self-lubricating.
ADVANTAGES
REDUCED COMPONENT WEIGHT
Nylon sheaves are approximately 1/7th the weight of steel sheaves of the same
dimension, and 1/2 the weight of aluminum sheaves. In heavy cranes with
multiple reeving, the weight savings can add up quickly.
Sheave weight reduction lowers the gross weights of booms, vehicles, boats, machinery, etc.. Reduced sheave weight makes them easier to handle during installation and replacement that metallic sheaves. Plastic sheave installation can increase safety due to the weight difference.
IMPROVED SERVICE LIFE
Standard wire rope rests in the groove on point contact only, high specific loads between the outer wires of the rope and the groove. Premature wire rope failure due to the breaking of individual wires in the outer strands of the wire rope can occur. This does not happen with Nylon custom machined sheaves.
Nylons elasticity results in a larger contact area between wire rope and sheave groove. The specific weight loading is greatly reduced, and the wire rope is under less stress. Load bearing contact area is 10 times larger on nylon sheaves than steel sheaves, which decreases wear.
CORROSION PROTECTION
Nylon custom machined sheaves are impervious to rust and salt water corrosion. Nylon is a high strength and excellent wear resistant plastic that does not rely on paint or coatings to protect against rust. Nylon sheaves are resistant to attack from most organic chemicals; which include solvents, degreasers, and clean-up solvents.
Custom machined nylon sheaves from B.I.R.S. Machine are produced in various grades such as Cast Nylon 6 natural, Nylon 6/6, Nylon 101, Cadco 101, Nylatron® GSM, Nylatron® GSM Blue, Nylatron® NSM, Nylatron® MC901, Nylatron® MC907, Nylatron® LIG, Nylatron® GS, Cast Nylon natural, Cast Nylon blue, Cast Nylon 12, Cast Nylon MD, Cast Nylon green, Cast Nylon yellow, Cast Nylon Nyloil, Cast Nylon orange, Cast Nylon oil-filled, Cast Nylon Nylube®, Cast Nylon Ms02, Nycast® Nylons, Nycast® XHA, Vekton® 6XAU, Vekton® Cast Nylon Nycast® CP, and Cast Nylon FDA compliant, Cast Nylon Oilon® sheaves and more.
We ship sheaves all across the US to major cities, manufacturing sites, inland ports, and sea & ocean ports for all kinds of markets including cranes, wreckers, automotive, railways, transportation, construction, mining, oil & gas, steel mills, forest products, pulp & paper, marine & maritime, shipping ports, agriculture, wire and cable, machinery, equipment, material handling, conveyors, ships, sailboats, food processing and more.
