CIP MARINE
B.I.R.S. Machine & Supply is a distributor of CIP Marine sheet, tube and machined
components including bearsings, bushings, thrust washers, wear pads, wear rings,
electrical insulation part, thermal insulation parts and custom components.
CIP Marine is manufactured with polyester textile and a high performance polyester resin with solid lubricants PTFE and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) evenly dispersed throughout the resin. Typically used as propeller shaft and rudder bushings. CIP Marine is a proprietary material specifically developed for marine environments. This combination of resin reinforced with textile creates a dimensionally stable material ideal for replacing bronze in marine environments.
CIP Marine is a proprietary lubricated polyester textile material made specifically for the marine industry. CIP Marine is ABS Marine Class Type Approved and RINA Type Approved for Stern Tube and Rudder Bearings.
BENEFITS
Environmentally friendly
CIP materials do not contain toxic or harmful materials. CIP is self lubricating, therefore eliminates the need to introduce external lubricants such as greases which can be carried away by water or heat.
Self lubricating
Solid lubricants are dispersed evenly throughout the material, eliminating the need for external lubrication. Offering a variety of advanced lubricants, additives and material combinations CIP can provide a product solution for a wide scope of application demands.
Suited for fresh or salt water environments
CIP Composites do not swell or lose mechanical properties when immersed in fresh or salt water. Many common plastics can swell and change shape considerably, which requires careful planning, handling, and installation of the bearings. CIP avoids all these pitfalls by retaining its machined shape and tolerances even when immersed.
Low coefficient of friction
Eliminates noisy stick-slip problems, extends operating life and reduces wear making for better operating efficiency. Low coefficients of friction can be achieved while operating dry or in wet environments. In low speed or oscillating operation CIP can offer bearing solutions with lower friction and wear rates than greased bronze alternatives. Static coefficient of friction is generally very similar to dynamic, even after prolonged periods of rest, where other materials may develop high break-away torque requirements.
Negligible water swell
<0.15% water swell on all CIP Composite materials, with the exception of CIP Hydro which is rated at <0.1% water swell. This dimensional stability allows the designer to specify sizes and tolerances appropriate for the application, and have assurance that the machined material will maintain these dimensions once installed and put into operation below the water line.
