G11/FR5 Fiberglass Expoxy
B.I.R.S. Machine & Supply is a distributor of Phenolics and G11/FR5 Glass Epoxy sheet.
G11/FR5 laminate sheet is a glass fabric reinforcement in a high temperature epoxy resin binder. The natural color is typically yellow-green-tan blend. This grade is similar to G10/FR4 but has a higher operating temperature and superior mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. It maintains good properties at both dry and humid conditions. It certifies to NEMA G-11/FR5 and MIL-I-24768/3 Type GEB.
G-11/FR-5 glass epoxy is rated at 300 degree F continuous operating temperature. G11/FR-5 has a low dielectric loss and has a retention of 50% of mechanical properties at 300 degrees or 150 C. This material should be used in applications where temperatures in excess of 125 degrees C are encountered. Because G-11/FR5 is a thermoset, no melting will occur with these grades, however charring will be observed after extended periods above this temperature rating. G11/FR-5 has a UL flammability rating of 94 V-0.
These glass-epoxy laminates are specified for their extremely high strength and high dimensional stability over temperature. G-10/FR4 and G-11/FR5 are used for terminal boards, high humidity applications, electrical and electronic test equipment and electric rotor insulation. G-10/FR4 is slightly stronger while G-11 / FR5 is a better insulator and can take higher temperatures.
Commonly referred to as Micarta, Bakelite, Insulating Material, and more.
