PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic material,
with a continuous use temperature range up to 400/500° F (240/260° C).
It is categorized as an advanced engineering material and offers high
thermal resistance and a very low coefficient of friction.
PTFE is a high molecular weight polymer. PTFE is commonly referred to as Teflon®, which is a registered product of DuPont. It is a highly versatile plastic material useful in a broad range of high-technology market segments and products. It is easy to CNC routed and CNC Machined, and can be die cut in thin gauges, sawed, and water-jet cut. PTFE has a very low chemical reactivity-resists most chemical agents and solvents, and is non-toxic, making it a material of choice in food industry applications. PTFE has high dielectric
properties that make it suitable for many electronic products.
PTFE was accidentally discovered by Dupont chemist, Roy Plunkett with Freon gasses in 1938. The residual powder is manufactured by DYNEON, DAIKIN, and SOLVAY SOLEXIS.
